Senate Beat

Winter Break is over which means back to the Student Senate meetings. First up Report of Committees. In Perspectives the idea of putting a recycling bin in the library for paper is a go. The issue of flooding in Donner was discussed. There seems to be no short-term solution for the flooding. A long-term solution is to fix the draining.
SOAC investigated the issue that our recycling might just be thrown away. This turned out to be false. The cleaning ladies put the recycling bags in the back of the truck with the trash but once the truck gets to the plant it is then sorted and recycled. This sparked someone to say that we would have a more sophisticated recycling system with Rumpke. The Rumpke services we would you use would be out of Louisville in this case and cost more.
In Old Business the Laundry Proposal was discussed and then voted on. Some facts were given and some suggestions made. If there were to be an increase in the cost for the beginning of the semester laundry fee, then it would have to go through Senate. Money received back from the laundry fee goes to Hall Council. One suggestion was, instead of a new laundry system put a coin changer in the laundry room that you swipe your card on and get change. The discussion ceased and the proposal passed.
For New Business two marketing consultants came in and talked to the Senate about how to better sell Hanover College. They asked several questions about Hanover College.
Q: Why did you come to Hanover College?
A: The scenery is beautiful and makes Hanover a very inviting place. It is in part of the country where you still get winter and snow. You aren't forced to choose your major right away. The faculty is great. They care about you and show a real interest in you. In athletics the coaches took time out of their schedules to meet with me as a prospective student.
Q: Why didn't a student/students who got into Hanover come?
A: Hanover isn't large enough to offer some things people are interested in. Other Universities offer more facilities to students. Hanover College isn't diverse enough.
