On Saturday, March 15th the International Club will hold the 32nd annual International Banquet. The theme this year is Flavors of the World. Students can take their taste buds on a trip around the world in just two hours.

The banquet will take place in the Campus Center dining room and begins at 6 p.m. The menu consists of more than fifteen dishes from across the world. Ethnic food from Germany, Italy, Thailand, Costa Rica, Nepal, Vietnam, and China will be served. The dinner is a full-course meal including salads, main courses, soups, desserts, and beverages.

Van Pham, Vice President of the club and Personal Relations chair for the banquet, said that this is the club's biggest event of the year. She also said that it is International club's most important event because it gives members a chance to show their traditions to the rest of the campus and community.

"It's a good opportunity for people on campus to experience diversity and cross-cultural studies" Pham said.

The banquet usually draws around 300 guests which include students, faculty members, and members from the Hanover and Madison communities. This is an opportunity for students and community members to enjoy more ethic food than they can find at surround restaurants and experience different cultures.

Despite the large turnout in the past, Pham said that she would to see a larger turn out from students. She said she hopes the banquet will help them gain a better appreciation for the diversity on Hanover's campus. Nine percent of Hanover students are either international students or African American.

"Here at Hanover people say it's not diverse but International club is a symbol of that diversity" Pham said.

The club also wants to make the banquet accessible and enjoyable for as many people as possible. The wide variety of dishes includes vegetarian dishes and a variety of meat and, if affordable, seafood.

Tae Phojanasupan, a junior economics major, is in charge of cooking all the Thai food. Phojanasupan will be making Thai Beef Salad, Thai Fruit Salad, and Thai Iced Tea. Phojanasupan's also said his mother will help with the cooking, or as he said, "I will be assisting her."
